The name and inspiration for our food and drinks come from the legacy of Chef Pittman’s grandfather, William Seto Ping, who was among the first Chinese immigrants to Newfoundland when he arrived in 1931 from Canton, China.  A businessman, educator, and community activist, Seto was a staple to the Chinese community of St. John’s.

Chef Ken Pittman grew up in awe of his grandfather, and learned about traditional Chinese recipes and cooking techniques in his Rabbittown kitchen.

All of the dishes we serve here at Seto are inspired by Chef Pittman’s heritage, from the distant province of Canton to the rocky coasts of Newfoundland. Using fresh, local ingredients native to the province and adding a unique Asian twist is what we do best.
